Central Coast pysiotherapist and Pilates instructor, Lisa Anthony from Physioxtra will demonstrate a “Fit Over 50″ Pilates demonstration at Friday’s Switched On Over 50s Expo at Davistown RSL.

Physioxtra is just one of a number of local businesses that will be demonstrating their goods and services on the day: Bessimaware will host a “Great Food on the Go” Cooking Demonstration and a host of financial services companies will deliver presentations specifically designed for the over-50s.

Carmel McKay from McKay Property will be speaking on “7 Smart Reasons to Consider Buying Property through your SMSF” while local financial planner, Bruce Gingell from Fiducian Financial Services will deliver a presentation on “Getting Ready for Retirement”.

Bruce, who is also a Switched On Over 50s Expo Organiser, said Central Coast residents should listen to local radio station 2GO FM (107.7) over the next few days to hear where they can pick up free tickets to the event. “2GO will also be crossing live to the event on the day, so stay tuned!” he said.

The Switched On Over 50s Expo is proudly sponsored by Fiducian Financial services, McKay Property and Finance, Challenger Australia, one26 Mortgages and 64 Media – a local public relations business which is sponsoring Sorrel Wilby’s appearance at the expo.

“We are delighted to sponsor Sorrel who will be speaking at the Expo about her amazing travel adventures,” said 64 Media’s Principal, Julie Bennett. “We hope Central Coast residents take the unique opportunity to meet with Sorrel and hear her fantastic experiences first hand.”

In the spirit of travel, visitors to the Expo have the opportunity to win prizes to the value of $1500 including a $1000 travel voucher from local operator It’s Easy Tours.

Local event offers the Over 50s opportunity to meet TV celebrity Sorrel Wilby

Organisers of Switched on Over 50s have announced that visitors to next week’s Retirement and Lifestyle Expo to be held April 15 2011 at Davistown RSL will have the opportunity to meet television personality and adventurer Sorrel Wilby in person.

Media wishing to speak to Sorrel in the lead up to the event should contact 64 Media on 02 4369-1746.

Event co-ordinator, Bruce Gingell said Sorrel has travelled the world and is well qualified to talk to the over-50s about the pleasures and pitfalls of setting out on a travel adventure.

“We are delighted that Sorrel has now agreed to not only speak at the Expo and share her unique insights but also to spend some time meeting people on the day.”

Other guest speakers include Indy Singh (frequently interviewed on Sky News), who will talk on investment outlook, as well as speakers on retirement planning, self managed super funds and estate planning.

Mr Gingell said Switched on over 50s is excited by the interest in the Expo, which has attracted local and national sponsors and exhibitors, as it confirms the organisers’ belief that this type of event is missing on the Coast.

“With the children gone from the family nest, mature Australians start making decisions about how they will enjoy the next exciting phase of their lives,” Mr Gingell said. “The Switched on over 50’s Expo will give these people the opportunity to road test various financial, healthcare, travel and lifestyle products and services in one place.”

Visitors to the Expo can also go into the draw for prizes totalling $1500 – including  a $1,000 travel voucher provided by local tour operator It’s Easy Tours.

Sponsors of the Expo include Fidician Financial services, McKay Property and Finance, Challenger Australia, and 126 Financial. The organisers have made a very limited number of last minute sponsor and exhibitor spaces available to local businesses.

To take advantage of this opportunity or to secure free tickets to the event, please call the organisers 02 4322 8118.

Baby Boomers and Retirement

Response to :Super concerns” article

Loose Change by John Collett. SMH April 6 Money Section  Page 3

Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten has surely got it wrong when he tells a recent conference that “Baby Boomers will risk living out their last days in poverty unless the Superannuation Guarantee (SG) is increased from 9 per cent to 12 per cent”.

Mr Shorten surely must realise that as far as SG contribution is concerned it is probably a bit late for most Baby Boomers to benefit significantly from any increase in contributions.

Most Baby Boomers would surely benefit more by a relaxation of the absurd contribution limits and the penalties imposed for exceeding these limits.

This is another sign that the Government is missing the point when it comes to financial advice and retirement policy.
